Kapa haka

Kapa haka

On the 18 of November 2020 we did a kapa haka performance at the gisborne kapa haka festival with moana cinderkit and we have been practicing at the start of the year all most to the end of the year. We sang as loud as a lion. You might not know what kapa haka is so im gonna tell you what it is ...

The meaning of kapa haka is a celebration of nzs Maori culture in gisborne. I have also learnt how to do the poi and the actions to the song , also the words to the haka and it was a bit hard at the start but now i know all the words to our Maori songs. My favorite song was Wainui e and the poi. Did you know that it was rude to show your palms to the ordnance ? It also rude to turn your back to the ordnance did you know that ?

I enjoyed the kapa haka festival because i learnt our whole songs (waitata) and the poi as well. At the start i felt nervous but then i felt super excited and proud of myself from our performance on stage with all friends.

Thank you !

Butterfly art

Butterfly art with Koka Brodie

In term 4 a new teacher came into our class and her name was Koka Brodie. Then we introduced ourselves to koka Brodie in a circle. I got kinda confused when we said our names to Koka Brodie and pur fav food also our fav colour as well.

After introducing ourselves Koka Brodie told us that we are going to do. We did butterfly art but first we needed to do a draft first.  As we did our draf it was hard but then Koka Brodie put up a video how to draw a butterfly so then it could help us.

Then  we had to draw our butterfly on a big piece of paper but really big so it can take up most of our piece of paper so we would not waste the paper as well. After that step the teacher exclaimed we do all of the space that was white and then we colour it with a black pastel.

Next  we get to do the fun part ... the fun part was when we had to  paint our background with yellow , blue and green on a piece of paper. After our background is dry we wait till we finish our butterfly so then we can stick it on.

Carefully we had to add little white dots to our butterflies and then we are all finish.

The BFG

 The BFG

Do you like the book called the Bfg ? In term 4 room one has been reading the book about the BFG and we have been doing a BFG dream jar , Dancing to some music with a buddys in groups as well.

Room one made our dream jar by writing want we want to be when we grow up. So then we did our background with paint and a little bit of water to make it a bit watery. Then we started to do our good copy i'm glad i didn't make a mistake on my dream jar.

The next day we read a chapter and used music and dance to help us understand it better. As the music turned on we all moved to the BFG and Sophie music and it was so fun because we got to work in groups with our friends dancing to the music. In this chapter Sophie was in the BFGs pocket and she was scared because she wanted to get out of the pocket. Sophie was also worried but then the wind was blowing and her hair looked like it was fly in the wind. Lots of people in room one looked like they were flying around like a bird.

Rockets to Mars.

This term my group and I have been doing computational thinking with Koka Celia. My favorite activity was rocket to mars.

Koka Celia picks one person to be a mars, rocket, debugger and a person with a white board. Lily-rose was the person with the white board she had to direct the rocket like left, right, turn right and turn left. I was the rocket and Lucy was the debugger.

Now I will teach you how to play.

1.Place the rocket on one of the corners.

2.Then place mars somewhere close to the rocket.

3.The person with the white board will give directions to the rocket.

4.The debugger is when it can fix up the mistakes.

Skipping

 Skipping

Every morning Room one and I go skipping because it helps us when we do cross-country so we can get faster at running. Koka Anna times us for 15 seconds, 30 seconds and then 45 seconds. Do you like to Skip?

My buddy is Lucy, we both have a green handled skipping rope and it is a smaller skipping rope than the rest. The reason why we have a buddy is so we can keep track and count our skips.

After Room one has finished skipping we all go back into the classroom and we get our maths book to rule up our grid. Sometimes my score of skips goes up and down.

I really enjoy skipping because you could get more skips then last time.
